Glory to Ukraine! Glory to heroes!
Heroes' Day is the day of fighters for the freedom of the country, from the knights of the times of Kyivan Rus to the participants of the Revolution of Dignity, fighters of the ATO/OOS in Donbas, and the current defenders of Ukraine.
The idea of a commemorative date, which would honor the heroic fighters, was born in the national liberation movement during the Second World War. It was introduced by the resolution of the second Great Assembly of the OUN in April 1941. Subsequently, the Day of Heroes was celebrated by the Ukrainian diaspora. In independent Ukraine, Heroes' Day on May 23 began to be celebrated more widely after the Russian attack in 2014.
