Renaming: "Memorial in Honor of the Heroic Resistance of the Residents of Koryukivka Region to the German-Fascist Invaders" has changed its name

"Memorial in Honor of the Heroic Resistance of the Residents of Koryukivka Region to the German-Fascist Invaders" is now called "Monument to the Victims of the Koryukivka Tragedy 1-2, March 9, 1943"

80 years ago, more than 500 people were killed in the center of Koryukivka, at the site of this monument. Because of this, scientists began to raise the question that the name of the memorial should be changed from "heroic resistance" to "commemoration of the victims."

"On March 1, 1943, there was a restaurant here. Punishers led the inhabitants of the central streets in groups and shot them. Human remains have not been reburied... The monument should be renamed to the monument honoring the victims of the Koryukivka tragedy on March 1-2 and March 9, 1943," says Lyudmila Babich, director of the Koryukivka Historical Museum.

The decision to rename the monument was made on November 8 during a meeting of the Advisory Council on Cultural Heritage Protection at the Department of Culture and Tourism, Nationalities and Religions of the Regional State Administration.
